Maido Restaurant returns to N#1 Latin America’s 50 Best
THE RESTAURANT ALSO WINS TWO ADDITIONAL AWARDS, THE BEST RESTAURANT IN PERU AND THE BEST SOMMELIER AWARD FOR FLORENCIA REY
THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME THAT THE RESTAURANT HAS REACHED THE HIGHEST POSITION IN THE RANKING.

Lima, 29 November 2023. From last night it is already a reality, Maido has returned to Number 1 on the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list, a position it occupied for three consecutive years in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Chef Mitsuharu “Micha” Tsumura was radiant with happiness at the gala held last night at Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) where, in addition to this incredible award, his team received two more: The Best Restaurant in Peru 2023, as the restaurant from his country ranked highest on the list, and The Best Sommelier 2023, which was given to Florencia Rey, Maido’s wine manager who has been working alongside the chef for many years.
Throughout its 14-year history, Maido has won many awards both locally in Peru and abroad. He is currently number 6 on The World’s 50 Best list, but as Micha told us last night, “each award is special because they come at unique and unrepeatable moments in life and projects, I am tremendously excited”.
Micha is a chef of Japanese descent, a country and culture he admires, and whose techniques and ingredients he applies in his cuisine. Although it is said that he is one of the greatest representatives of Nikkei cuisine, through his cooking he wants to transmit the deep love he feels for his country, Peru, its ingredients and its culture. Along his menu he proposes a journey that represents the sea and the territory of his country, where the Amazon and the northern and southern coasts of Peru play a special role as they are the main larders that nourish his cuisine with ingredients.
Undoubtedly, yesterday’s it was an incredible night for Micha and the entire Maido team that once again places Lima as one of the most incredible gastronomic destinations in Latin America and the world.
