THREE-TIME WORLD’S BEST CHEF, DABIZ MUÑOZ, PARTNERS WITH GLOBAL TRAVEL RETAIL LEADER AVOLTA TO LAUNCH A GROUNDBREAKING CULINARY PROJECT

HUNGRY CLUB DEBUTS IN SPAIN’S MAJOR AIRPORTS, OFFERING A REVOLUTIONARY, BESPOKE DINING EXPERIENCE TAILORED TO MODERN TRAVELERS

Dabiz Muñoz, hailed as the world’s best chef by The Best Chef Awards since 2021, has joined forces with Avolta, the global leader in travel retail and airport dining, to launch Hungry Club—a pioneering joint venture with UniverXO Group. This bold collaboration aims to redefine the concept of airport dining as we know it.

Hungry Club by Dabiz Muñoz is designed to shatter the conventional notion of “airport food.” It caters to hedonists, explorers, and nonconformists—people who seek exceptional culinary experiences no matter where they are, even in an airport. At the core of this project is a radical reinvention of the airport dining experience, offering a dynamic and high-quality menu crafted in collaboration with local, sustainable suppliers.

At Hungry Club, travellers will find a truly unique gastronomic experience that redefines how we eat in airports, showcasing Dabiz Muñoz’s distinctive flair and boundary-pushing approach. The menu will focus on bold, contrasting flavours and evolve constantly to keep things fresh and exciting. Designed with frequent travellers in mind, the dishes will be available both at a dining counter and for takeout. The offerings will shift throughout the day, catering to breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner needs, with faster grab-and-go options for those in a hurry.

With Hungry Club, Dabiz Muñoz once again demonstrates his unrivalled ability to create imaginative, limitless cuisine that resonates across all dining formats—from food trucks to the avant-garde restaurant DiverXO, currently ranked fourth globally by The World’s 50 Best. With this new venture, Muñoz now sets his sights on transforming one of the most underexplored areas of the culinary world: airport dining.

Hungry Club locations will be integrated into selected duty-free shops operated by Avolta’s Spanish division at airports including Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, and Palma de Mallorca. Operating hours will align with those of the duty-free stores. These innovative spaces will combine top-tier dining with a one-of-a-kind travel experience, allowing passengers to enjoy exquisite creations by Muñoz, renowned for his ability to surprise and delight.

Reflecting on the launch, Dabiz Muñoz said, “At XO, we are constantly developing new ideas—always on our own terms. Our guiding principles allow us to create one-of-a-kind concepts, whether for a world-class restaurant like DiverXO, a traveling food truck, or even exceptional home delivery like GOXO. We’ve been working on Hungry Club for a long time, and for me, it’s been an amazing journey. I spend so much time in airports, so I’m intimately familiar with the rhythm, the rush, the stress of missing a flight, and the endless hours of delay. I travel across five continents every year, and I’ve been studying how to create something truly new—an experience that’s hedonistic, fast-paced, and dynamic, yet always maintains the quality we demand. I’m beyond excited to see this project come to life.”

This initiative is part of Avolta’s ongoing commercial transformation in Spain, following its acquisition of key regions in Andalucía-Mediterráneo, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, and Madrid in 2023. These moves have positioned Avolta as a crucial business partner for Aena. According to Ángeles Montesdeoca, Managing Director of Avolta in Spain, “With this project, we’re bringing a unique gastronomic experience to airports, crafted alongside the world’s best chef, while introducing a revolutionary duty-free concept that merges high-end retail with exceptional dining. These new spaces offer an unprecedented consumer experience in Spanish airports and highlight Avolta’s innovation and value as Aena’s top partner.”

The Hungry Club journey kicked off yesterday with the opening of the first location in the T4 Satellite Terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. In this meticulously planned venture with Grupo UniverXO and Avolta, every detail has been tailored to match the pace and demands of airport life, offering travellers a chance to enjoy flavourful and original food before, during, or after their flights.

Dabiz Muñoz’s culinary journey with Hungry Club starts long before you board the plane. So, buckle up and get ready for take-off!
