CHEF MICHEL BRAS WILL BE HONOURED IN MEXICO AT AN EVENT HOSTED BY CHEF OSWALDO OLIVA

THE EVENT, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE IN JANUARY 2025, WILL CONSIST OF DIFFERENT EVENTS WHERE PROFESSIONALS AND GASTRONOMY LOVERS WILL BE INVOLVED TO SUPPORT THE WORLD-RENOWNED FRENCH CHEF

THE CLOSING PART WILL BE A DINNER AT LOREA RESTAURANT TO CELEBRATE BRAS’ CAREER AND LEGACY

Michel Bras is one of the leading figures in French cuisine and one of the great chefs in the contemporary history of gastronomy. Throughout his career, many chefs have worked at his restaurant Le Suquet in Laguiole and have become his disciples, spreading his philosophy to different parts of the world. He is a unique chef, linked to nature and to his homeland, Aubrac, who together with his wife Ginette and his son Sébastien (now at the helm of the restaurant), have forged a legacy that has left its mark on world gastronomy.

Mexican chef Oswaldo Oliva, owner of Lorea restaurant in Mexico City, declares himself a firm admirer of Bras’ work philosophy. During his time working at Mugaritz alongside Andoni Luis Aduriz, he was lucky enough to meet the French chef at different events, as well as visiting his restaurant and learning about his know-how. With the desire to show his gratitude for all that Michel has meant to him, he has been forging this idea of a tribute that will become a reality next January.

For Oswaldo, “the BRAS model of thinking has been from day one a reference for me and the entire Lorea team”. Therefore, for Chef Oliva, “to receive him in Mexico to celebrate his professional career is an honour and a great pleasure. With this tribute, Mexican gastronomy welcomes Michel Bras and celebrates his life’s work. I thank him for his warmth and generosity in accepting this invitation, but above all I thank him for having shown us a model of teaching, passion and excellence in balance with naturalness and beauty”.

To organize this event, chef Oswaldo Oliva has the collaboration of Vatel Club Mexico, which, given its close ties with France, would like to be part of this tribute. This association was founded by the French chef Olivier Lombard, in a joint initiative with other prestigious chefs in Mexico, also of French origin, and brings together professionals from all over the country, regardless of nationality.

On 21 January, a friendly meeting will be held with the Mexican press and chefs to give a warm welcome to the chef. It will be a relaxed meeting, designed so that attendees can share knowledge with Michel, and discuss the past, present and future of gastronomy. During this meeting, the chef will be honoured for his career, his achievements and the culinary heritage he has given us.

The most special moment will take place on the 22nd with the tribute dinner, hosted by Oswaldo Oliva and his team at the Lorea restaurant. A perfect finale to this tribute, with which all those involved wish to thank Michel Bras for his great commitment and dedication, and for the great deal he has given to the world of gastronomy.  

In addition to these significant events, Michel and his spouse Ginette will enjoy a few days of rest in the capital. They will have time to enjoy the local cuisine and explore Mexican culture through visits to some of the city’s most emblematic and historic landmarks.

Mexico City is preparing to host this event next January, to be able to show Chef Michel Bras the gratitude that the gastronomic world feels towards him. They want to express him the gratitude for his immense generosity and for leaving us with a legacy that will last forever.
