Dabiz Muñoz N#1 The Best Chef Awards for third year in a row
The Madrid-born chef is at the top of the list of the 100 best chefs on the planet for the third year in a row, an unprecedented fact revealed tonight at the gala awards held in Mérida (Mexico).
Dabiz’s effort and talent is recognized by the jury of this award as an example of non-conformism, originality, and avant-garde.
Madrid, 21 November 2023. The growth of UniverXO seems to have no limit or expiry date. Dabiz Muñoz was named the Best Chef in the World yesterday at the climax of the awards gala of the seventh edition of The Best Chef Awards, held in Merida (Yucatan). This recognition continues a kingdom that began in 2021, in Amsterdam, and was ratified for the first time a year ago in Madrid, his hometown.
The renewed title is a direct consequence of the deliberation of a committee of 380 experts of different nationalities, including critics, journalists, other gastronomes and more than a hundred chefs. All of them have not overlooked, for yet another year, the effort and talent of a professional who is considered an example of non-conformism, originality, and avant-garde.
The new distinction therefore rewards the talent, perfectionism and tenacity of a disruptive chef who is living his best moment in the fields of creativity and recognition. After all, in addition to his crown as Best Chef, there are four MICHELIN Stars and his current third place of DiverXO in the prestigious international list, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. In 2010, he won one of the most relevant prizes in Spain, the Best Chef National Gastronomy Award and 11 years later, in Paris, La Liste awarded him the Innovation Award.
Since 2007, when he embarked on his own path, ending an initial stage of training with profitable stops at Viridiana, Hakkasan and Nobu, Dabiz has not stopped receiving recognitions. Over the years, he has accumulated awards for his daring in creating impossible compositions in his recipes, for his eagerness to travel, and for his creative talent spread across the different formats and emotions that make up his UniverXO. In addition to his emblematic DiverXO (3*MICHELIN), a lighthouse of haute cuisine worldwide, the chef’s imagination is spread across different projects and locations; in the capital with StreetXO, RavioXO (1*MICHELIN), GoXO delivery and his latest craze, Pollos Muñoz, a food truck that will be in the Christmas market of El Corte Inglés de Nuevos Ministerios (and another one in Malaga city). In Barcelona, it has GoXO which, in addition to delivery, offers its delicacies in a physical location in a fast-food format. And soon the international jump will come with StreetXO Dubai, which is expected to open in the first four months of 2024. The large scale of the deployment proves the chef’s ability to conceive a unique, creative and limitless cuisine that adapts to all segments, from a street food stall to the most unpredictable gastronomic restaurant.
Looking to the immediate future, a blank canvas on which to continue questioning old dogmas and pre-established rules, 2024 will see a new milestone with the move of DiverXO to a wooded area of La Finca, a luxury development located 15 minutes from the center of Madrid. There, the heart of the beast will be placed, the ground zero where new ideas and recipes will be conceived to broaden horizons, open new paths, and rewrite the future. The aim is none other than to create the best restaurant in history.
